27 shots but no goals…a long way to go Busy Jeju-North Korea draw

Professional soccer K League 1 teams Jeju United and Jeonbuk Hyundai fired off a combined 27 shots on goal but were unable to find a winner.

Jeju and Jeonbuk played to a 0-0 draw in the 29th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2023 at Jeju World Cup Stadium on Wednesday.

It was Jeju’s third consecutive draw (D1, D2). Jeju remained in ninth place with 35 points from nine wins, eight draws and 12 losses.

Jeonbuk, without a win in four matches (three draws), remained in fifth place with 12 W, 7 D, 10 L, and 43 points.

After a scoreless first half, Jeonbuk head coach Dan Petrescu took Hapa Silva off and brought on Song Min-gyu. Song Min-gyu had a chance to score at the start of the second half, but his shot was late and caught in the opponent’s defense.

Jeju tried to attack intermittently. In the 11th minute of the second half, Jeju’s Hayes hit a right-footed mid-range shot that went wide of the goal.안전놀이터

Jeonbuk’s Moon Sun-min repeatedly missed chances to take the lead. In the 14th minute of the second half, Moon dribbled into the penalty box and fired a right-footed shot, but the ball hit a Jeju defender and went out. On the ensuing corner kick, Moon’s shot flew over the bar. Moon had another chance in the 16th minute after breaking through the Jeju defense, but the ball went straight at Jeju goalkeeper Kim Dong-jun.

Jeonbuk wasted another chance in the 19th minute. Ahn Hyun-beom sent a strong cross to Munjeon after breaking through the flank, but the ball was not closed by the onrushing Park Jae-yong.

With the lack of goals, Petrescu made a change in the midfield in the 24th minute, taking off Boateng and bringing on Amano Jun.

Still, Jeonbuk was unable to score. In the 27th minute, Park Jae-yong received the ball from Song Min-gyu and fired a left-footed shot, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 44th minute, Hoesim’s shot from Song Min-gyu went over the crossbar.

Second half stoppage time Jeonbuk unleashed an all-out attack, but Jeju defenders threw themselves to block it. In the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, Park Jin-seop’s right-footed mid-range shot went wide of the goal. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Doosan defeats Lotte and escapes 3 consecutive losses… ‘8 consecutive wins’ KIA leaps to 4th place

The Doosan Bears defeated the Lotte Giants and escaped their three-game losing streak.

Doosan won 2-0 in the away game against Lotte in the ‘2023 Shinhan Bank Sol KBO League’ held at Sajik Stadium on the 3rd, led by a good pitch from starter Brandon Waddell.

Doosan (55 wins, 1 draw, 54 losses), which escaped a 3-game losing streak, is aiming to regain 5th place.

Brandon achieved his 7th win (3 losses) of the season with 5 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, and no runs in 6 innings. Brandon, who was re-recruited to Doosan as a replacement player at the end of June, is looking at double-digit wins.

Additionally, Brandon continued its 5-game away winning streak.

Seung-ho Kang played an active role with 1 hit and 1 run in 3 at-bats, and Eui-ji Yang of Doosan contributed to the victory with a timely hit in the top of the 8th inning.

Lotte, ranked 7th with a season record of 51 wins and 59 losses, is moving further and further away from ‘fall baseball.’ Lotte is mired in four consecutive losses at its home stadium.

Lotte starting pitcher Charlie Barnes pitched well in 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 strikeouts, and 1 run (non-earned), but did not receive support from the batting line, resulting in his 8th loss (9 wins) of the season. He failed to become a winning pitcher in 3 consecutive games when he was on the verge of 10 wins.

Lotte’s batting lineup ended up scoring no runs even after hitting 5 hits.

Doosan scored first.

In the top of the third inning, Doosan took advantage of the opponent’s throwing error when leadoff hitter Kang Seung-ho’s hit and Yu-chan Lee’s grounder to third base, giving them a chance to get to first and third base without an out. Then, when Lee Yu-chan stole second base, third base runner Kang Seung-ho hit home and scored the first run.

However, Doosan was blocked by Barnes’ counterattack and was unable to score an additional point.

Lotte also failed to target Brandon and remained scoreless until the sixth inning.

Doosan, which was maintaining an uneasy lead of 1-0, created a chance in the 8th inning with a ball hit by lead hitter Kim Tae-geun, Park Gye-beom’s sacrifice bunt, and Yang Seok-hwan’s walk. Afterwards, thanks to Yang Eui-ji’s 1-RBI hit, they ran away with a 2-0 score.

Doosan’s second pitcher, Park Chi-guk, appeared in the 7th inning and achieved his 11th hold of the season (5 wins, 2 losses, 2 saves) with one inning of scoreless pitching, and Kim Myung-shin recorded his 13th hold of the season (2 wins, 3 losses) with one inning of scoreless pitching.

Doosan closer Jeong Cheol-won, who pitched in the 9th inning, earned his 6th save of the season (5 wins, 4 losses, 11 holds) by pitching one inning of no hits and no runs.

Lotte fell to its knees with no hits after the 6th inning.

KIA, who had an 8-game winning streak, rose to 4th place and narrowed the gap against 3rd place SSG to 1.5 games.

In addition, KIA continued its streak of 5 consecutive wins against SSG, 6 consecutive wins against Munhak, and 4 consecutive away wins.

SSG’s bullpen lineup, including Ko Hyo-jun, Seo Jin-yong, and Lee Un-woon, collapsed one after another, putting their heads down. Closer Seo Jin-yong recorded his second blown save of the season and suffered his third loss of the season (3 wins, 34 saves).

SSG (60 wins, 1 draw, 51 losses), mired in 4 consecutive losses, is uneasily maintaining its 3rd place position.

Kiwoom Heroes won 7-0 in the home game against KT Wiz held at Gocheok Sky Dome.

9th place Kiwoom (51 wins, 3 draws, 70 losses), who won 4 games in a row, laid the foundation for escaping from the bottom tier.

Kiwoom foreign pitcher Ariel Jurado became the winning pitcher with no hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, and no runs in 6⅔ innings.

After a 4-game winning streak, Rado earned his 9th win (8 losses) of the season. The average ERA was lowered to 2.72.

Ronnie Dawson led the victory with a timely hit in the top of the third inning, Lim Byeong-wook went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs, and Kim Si-ang contributed to the victory with 2-for-4 at-bats with 2 RBIs.

KT (63 wins, 2 draws, 50 losses), which lost three times in a row, is in danger of second place Suseong.

KT starter Kim Min performed poorly, allowing 6 hits and 6 runs (5 earned runs) in 3 innings, becoming the losing pitcher.

The Samsung Lions won 6-1 in the home game against NC Dinos held at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu.

Jae-il Oh played an active role with 2 hits in 5 at-bats and 3 RBIs, and Ji-hyuk Ryu led the batting line with 2 hits in 3 at-bats, 1 RBI, and 2 runs.

Samsung achieved 25,000 RBI for the first time in KBO League history.

NC (57 wins, 2 draws, 51 losses), which failed to win three games in a row, fell to 5th place.

NC starter Choi Seong-young recorded his second loss of the season (5 wins), allowing 7 hits and 4 runs in 3 innings.

The Hanwha Eagles won 5-3 in an away game against the LG Twins held at Jamsil Stadium.

Hanwha defeated LG by scoring 5 points with 4 hits and 1 walk in the top of the second inning when the score was 0-1.

Hanwha’s pitching staff showed concentration by scoring 3 runs despite receiving 14 hits.

Hanwha (44 wins, 6 draws, 61 losses), which recorded two consecutive wins, laid the foundation for escaping from the bottom.

LG, who had all of their starting pitchers hit, lowered their heads due to the lack of cohesion in their batting lineup. LG starter Lim Chan-gyu suffered his third loss of the season (10 wins), allowing 4 hits and 5 runs (2 earned runs) in 5 innings.

LG (67 wins, 2 draws, 43 losses), which suffered two consecutive losses, is in first place.

“Uijeongbu KB fans are the best, one of the reasons to re-sign” Hwang Kyung-min stays with KB, no fans, no players

“Uijeongbu KB fans are the best.”

KB Insurance outside hitter Hwang Kyung-min, 27, became a free agent for the first time after the end of last season. Hwang opted to stay rather than move. He signed a three-year contract worth up to 1.815 billion won ($500 million in salary, $150 million in options).

When we recently met at the KB Insurance practice gym in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, Hwang said, “I didn’t know much when I was with Woori Card and Samsung Fire. Last year, we had a lot of good players, but this year, the roster has changed a lot. We have to overcome it. I think that’s why the team gave me a big salary.”메이저놀이터

“They didn’t just give it to me. I have a sense of responsibility for my salary. I feel like I need to work out harder to be more useful to the team,” he added.

After graduating from Kyungpook National University, Hwang was drafted by Woori Card with the second pick of the first round in the 2018 Men’s Rookie Draft and was named the Rookie of the Year that season. Since then, he has played for Woori Card, Samsung Fire, and now KB Insurance. In 35 games last season, Hwang recorded 401 points with a 49.93% offensive success rate and 32.45% receiving efficiency. After joining KB Insurance via trade at the beginning of last season, Hwang is working hard to make today and tomorrow better than yesterday.

He said, “Now I have to play a central role in the team. I’m training without skipping anything, both offense and reception,” he said. “There’s more pressure this season than last season. I have to show a performance worthy of the amount.”

Hwang Kyung-min joined Lim Do-heon-ho after the end of the season to compete in the 2023 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup Challenger Men’s Tournament in Taiwan. However, he was subsequently left off the roster for the Asian Championships and Asian Games.

“Actually, I went to the Challenger Cup and played a lot of matches, so I thought I would follow the next tournament, but when I checked the list the next day, my name was not there. I was very upset at first. Then I thought about it again and realized that I’m not good enough to be selected. I have to fill in the gaps,” I said to myself.

Hwang Kyung-min said, “For me, it’s my serve. I think the other outside hitters have good serves. I’ve been practicing a lot. It’s important to overcome the pressure in practice, but in the end, it’s all mental.”

Hwang parted ways with his best friend Han Sung-jung once again. The two players, who were rumored to be best friends since their school days, played together in Woori Card and led Woori Card to its heyday. However, after taking a break from Woori Card, Hwang Kyung-min reunited with KB Insurance, where Han Sung-jung was last season. However, they parted ways again in the off-season when Han Sung-jung was traded to Woori Card in exchange for Hwang Seung-bin.

Hwang Kyung-min said, “Even after Sung-jung left, people said a lot of things around me. But when I thought about it, I realized that although it would be great to play together, we were not meant to be together. Sung Jung and I have overlapping positions. On a good day, it’s fine, but if one or both of us can’t play, it puts a lot of pressure on outsiders to attack. Sung-jung is back on our card, and I hope it goes well.”

Hwang Kyung-min then greeted the fans who always fill the Uijeongbu Gymnasium. One of the reasons Hwang chose to stay with KB Insurance instead of transferring was the support and passion of the fans.

He said, “Thank you for always supporting me on weekdays and weekends. I feel happy when I play volleyball in Uijeongbu. I’m excited. It was one of the big reasons I signed a new contract. I’m always so grateful. If we reciprocate with our performance, the fans will love us even more. Without fans, there is no player, no team,” she smiled.

“I don’t have any other goals this season. I don’t want to get injured. Last year, I got injured in an international tournament, which was very disappointing. It’s the same for any athlete, but the rehabilitation process was so hard. It was hard to get back into the game, and I was nervous that I could get injured again. Even when you come back, you might not be able to play the way you want to. This year, I want to finish the season injury-free,” she said.
